Lacking Direction

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Yes, God will show you which path to take but you must be willing to submit to Him and His perfect will. The problem is that most of us do not want to humbly follow God’s direction; we think that we have it all figured out. We figure that we’re of age, independent and can therefore make our own decisions. We believe that we know what’s best for us, we don’t need anyone’s help, and especially the help of a far-removed God up in heaven. But…nothing can be farther from the truth.

Friends, we need God’s direction in our lives. We do not see the big picture but He does. God sees the front and back and everything in-between of the parade all at the same time, and from an envious vantage point. With this in mind, wouldn’t it make sense to relinquish our intentions to God and seek His will in all we do?

Another thing we’re guilty of doing is proclaiming that we’ve submitted our will to God but really it’s only for the big life-altering, earth shattering decisions; the small stuff, we could handle that. No!!! The Word of God is very clear, do not depend on yourself – “…lean not on your own…”

We continue to relish our dependence on self and more often than not end up confused about what decisions to make, where we ought to go, what we should do and so on. When we depend on our own understanding, when we plan our own way it becomes very easy to wander off that path.

“She does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.” – Proverbs 5:6 (ESV)

God’s way is firm. When He establishes your steps there’ll be no confusion as to which way to turn – you won’t be lacking direction.

Hear what else the Word of God says,

“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in His way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.” – Psalm 37:23-24 (ESV)

Beloved, there’s only one solution for the lack of direction in your life – seek God’s will in all you do; delight in His way; allow His will to prevail in every decision you face and then follow His direction. God will instruct you every step of the way.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” – Psalm 32:8 (ESV)

“You can make many plans, but the LORD's purpose will prevail.” – Proverbs 19:21 (NLT)

Jeremiah 29:11 tells you that God has already mapped out a great plan for your life, why not follow it. His purpose is going to prevail anyway. God’s way is sure, you’ll not lack direction and the journey will be much nicer.
