The Mustard Seed

And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” – Mark 4:30-32

In this parable, Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of God can be compared to the mustard seed – an incredibly small seed with incredibly large potential. And isn’t that just like God to use those things that the world considers of no consequence, the “small”, to establish and accomplish His enormous purposes. In the Kingdom of God, every little thing counts for something – nothing is insignificant.

Three years of ministry has grown into three thousand years of belief in Christ. On the day of Pentecost, the followers of Christ, at that time, could only fill one single room. Today, the followers of Christ are spread throughout the entire world. When God is the Orchestrator, nothing is impossible! He can accomplish so much with so little.

David was just a young boy when God used him to slay Goliath. Jeremiah was a teenager when God sanctified his mouth to prophesy to nations, and God had chosen him even before he was sown in his mother’s womb. Samuel was only a child when he heard God calling him. Timothy was a youngster when he began his service with Apostle Paul. And, Mary, an innocent young virgin, chosen by God to bring His only begotten Son into this world – the greatest and the best feat of all.

God only needs to sow one small seed, to grow the incredible; one “small” person willing to be His mustard seed. Is it you?
